Elon went on JRE for a second time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcYjXbSJBN8. Wasn’t quite as good/provocative. They focused on neural net and coronavirus for almost the whole time.
Kid’s name is pronounced x-ash-a-12.
Bought a flight back to LA, one-way until pandemic is done.
Docker swarm is docker’s own container orchestration tool.
Next.js for static sites or server-side rendering. Meteor, koa, hapi, some other frameworks. Express still the most popular.
Amazon reached out again. Athena (serverless query for s3 data), EMR (large data processing, like web indexing / data mining), and Glue (ETL).
Simple ETL: pull first name and last name from 2 source (Extract), assemble them together (Transform), write full name to another db (Load).
Watched blackfish.
Emailed Roger/Robert to check in on the underwriting. Had to get another gift letter with “repayment required” unchecked.
Youtube ad revenue wildly varies based on content, but it’s usually around $5/1000views. Can be as low as $1 or as high as $50. Sponsorship depends on size/content but Matt Stonie probably gets like $50k for a 60s honey ad? You also get a little through affiliate marketing (amazon links, etc). Overall, you can definitely make an annual salary that matches your # of subscribers.
Berkshire sold their entire airline position, from 7.5b to 4b.
Was able to finally get a delivery window for amazon fresh. Ordered on monday, supposed to arrive today. First box came, second one didn’t. Double checked with front desk and receiving dpmt. Asked amazon, they said check back in a couple hours because drivers will sometimes make 2 laps. Waited a few hours, nothing. Reached out to amazon support again. They issued a refund.
Best buddies called! Got to speak with a recipient, shared thanks!
Simplified: buy side = investors, sell side = banks.
I’d seen Peter Schiff’s occupy video before, but never his JRE appearance. “The money is better in the hands of the businessman who earned it by providing a product/service than the bureaucrat who regulates them.”
Gcc to obviously compile .c (source files) to .o (object files) the linker to create executables (by combining object and program files).
Bought a present for next Sunday, Mother’s day.
Lifelock guy with his name face and social security number, never forget!
Petaflop club. The only languages with this speed are : c, c++, fortran, julia.
Julia continues to impress as a potential python replacement.
Remember that you can involve all departments in a hackathon, not just software. HR, marketing, finance, everything.
Pettifogging – obscuring an issue by focusing on the petty details instead of the larger point.
Zoom with family.
Westworld season finale. Meh. Rick and morty is back though!
Bought a $100 standing mat for comfort when on my feet all day. Back is still kicking with sciatica/piriformis/disc/whatever, so I’ll continue standing for a while. Tough to quarantine and stay focused with work all day while uncomfortable :/
Bought the foot massager and ember mug as well.
Uber and Lyft laying off around ~20% each.
Talked with Levi!
Python 3.9 coming out beta soon.
Did a little refreshing on typescript.
Karate means empty hand. Karaoke means empty orchestra.
Auto insurance.
I called AAA over a week ago and left a message to cancel my socal auto insurance, and I filed a ticket on monday with email support to do the same, and I haven’t heard back from neither.
Called again later, got transferred 6 (six!) times, but was able to cancel the socal auto insurance policy finally. They’re going to prorate a return here as well, since I had paid the full year through June.
They also said that I’ll get a check for an unknown amount for coronavirus relief.
Watched remakes of friday the 13th and nightmare on elm street. A lot of horror movies rely on darkness too much.
The bottom of the bear valleys almost always coincide with the peak of the jobless claims. Unemployment now at 30m.
Elon tweeted that tsla’s share price is too high. Here we go again!
Provided a few more documents to the underwriter on Friday. Contacts for landlord, spacex, and citadel. Proof of vesting/liquidity. Explanations for gaps. This process is crazy long.
Citibiked around all of central park and the UES on Saturday.
Eclipse, vscode, sublime, vim, pycharm probably my most popular IDEs (the middle 3 being closer to text editors obviously).
BoA required justification of all deposits over a couple thousand. Provided some documentation.
Progressive web apps, remember. Built in web but feel like app. Crossplatform browser/mobile. Need (1) service worker so it can still function offline and (2) manifest.json for stuff like the icon to use.
Responded to 2020 census. Single house, male, white. Cool.
BoA requires an explanation of all gifts for the down payment. This process is crazy. To make it easy on my parents (and not require print/sign/scan/ugh), I created a docusign and filled out everything except 2 fields.
Treasury buffers up to 3 months. Most teams only need about 1.5 months. They write algorithms to forecast this and invest the money elsewhere instead.
Predictive analytics for worker’s comp.
They work with treasury analysts. They build the tech.
They have the front and middle and back offices as well. Back is admin, middle is risk, front is IPs.
FinTech org is >500 people. His team is 7 engineers, 2 data scientists, 4 software, 1 big data.
Requested to extend temp storage for a month, just like temp housing.
Sent a AAA support email about cancelling the CA auto insurance policy, since I hadn’t received a call back yet.
Netflix hoards shows to release during times like right now, to take advantage of gaps or to react to specific current times, etc. They have enough new content for 2 years!
“Please allow 10 business days for your unsubscription to take effect” – a ridiculous standard for 2020 web dev capability. There’s no technological blocker. Unsubscribe me immediately!
Adult blue whale eats the weight of around 3-4 cows a day.
Housing.
Reviewed ~6 documents in the home loan navigator. Basic disclosures, no action items. Stuff like: credit report, list of items necessary for underwriting, load summary, etc.
Rob Pace underwriter. Sent credit card info for appraisal and credit report.
Will go into work tomorrow to print/sign/scan/return the disclosures.
Provided exact dates for 310 Hermosa spot (2014-11-13 until 2020-02-29) and this new place. Attached temp lease agreement and Citadel’s commitment.
Got the down money from parents, confirmed receipt.
Asked Roger if we could close the other mortgage proposal from California. It’s irrelevant now and confuses the home screen. He confirmed he can’t, so I reached out to Fe to cancel it for me.
Rate reduction with Merrill, reminder of numbers: 0.125 for 250k, 0.250 for 500k, 0.375 for 3m. Lance McGibbon reached out, but unfortunately I can’t take advantage of this offer. I play to pay off the mortgage in full over 5 years, during which time I won’t have any moveable money exceeding 100k (intentionally).
Insurance. General, auto, and homeowner’s.
Called AAA northeast branch to transfer my membership. This is for general AAA, not specific to auto or home. $125 per year. Base rate is $54, but have to upgrade to plus for motorcycle. Going to start June 1, before closing. Got temp card. Added credit card for autorenewal, she’s going to cancel my CA (AAA SoCal) membership/autorenewal.
Got a temp membership card.
They don’t migrate the auto policy over, they basically create a new one with parity. Got a quote for the new one, just ducati. Parity with the old: 50 per person and 100 per occurrence, for all 3 of bodily injury, property damage, and uninsured/underinsured. 1000 deductible. Annual mileage quoted <1000. $4,428/yr with progressive!! What a crazy idea. I might sell the 3 bikes, but don’t want to. I think the most likely outcome is to keep them (disconnect batteries, drain gas, etc) as decorations in my unit until I ride again. Don’t need to pay for garage, don’t need to pay anything except registration.
Plymouth rock for home owner’s insurance, they give a AAA discount. $665/yr or $56/mo. Not bad at all. Told them to start it June 1. Docusigned and closed.
AAA insurance agent. 855-374-1821×8525 Kent.
Home: 80 dwelling 40 personal property 16 loss of use 300 personal liability 5 medical payments.
Called to cancel my AAA socal auto insurance plan (directly).
IBM not doing great because of coronavirus, even though earnings were decent. Fell from ~120 to 112.
NFLX continues to kill it. Earnings tonight should be interesting. Not commenting on the quality of the actual show content itself, but Love is Blind, Tiger King, Too Hot to Handle…perhaps it’s because we’re all quarantined with our TVs, but the recent content has been wildly successful.
Oil. Obviously with no one flying or driving, the fuel demand changes. High was 08, at 140 a barrel. Usually averages ~70. Dropped from 20 to basically zero, and then negative (futures) yesterday.
Uber has an 810m contract with the government to basically handle rides for fed employees on govt accounts.
Twitch, YouTube Gaming, Facebook Gaming – I don’t understand any of them. Why is it so popular? People enjoy watching other people play games lol? Regardless of my opinion, it’s a huge lucrative market.
AAA = american automobile association.
Amazon FinTech recruiter called again. Wanted to put me in contact with hiring manager.
