    • A handful of offers from both craigslist and offerup are scams. They suggest another email (outside of the app). Send a cashier’s check to you, add extra for moving/storage/etc, check is fake, they have you wire the difference to them, the check bounces as fraud days later, they never pick up the bike. They have your info and pocket the wire. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/cashiers-check-overpayment-scam/.
    • Ran a $25 VIN report for the BMW (vincheckup.com).
    • Bezos, Zuck, Pichai, Cook all grilled in congress.
    • Followed up with super about floor. Got the invoice from the installer and submitted the half deposit. Submitted the alteration agreement, signed copies of all riders, and W-9 (request for taxpayer info).
    • Went to home depot and ordered the material. Arrives next week.
    • Amazon, apple, facebook, google crushed earnings.
    • Got a quote for the electrician to install 2 circuit breakers: $1500. New York really is on one.
    • Called the plumber. Said he’d try to make it out tomorrow, and would come next week otherwise.
  • Sunday

    • Confirmed informed delivery with USPS.
    • BMW battery fully charged. Ignited and rode for a min. It’s ready to go. Multiple buyers have responded, should close tomorrow.
    • Fresh order. Man this place is coming together. Dishes, labelmaker, more.
    • Vitamix for the first time since move.
    • Installed bidet. Need to drill for access to the sink hot line, ordered new black and decker battery – mine was completely dead after many years.
    • Washed and rode ducati.
  • Saturday

    • Fresh order. The threshold for free shipping is $50 here, not $35.
    • Coat bags. Electric kettle. Vacuum. New cookware. So much good stuff.
    • All aunts together, called on walk home from work.
    • Replaced the BMW motorcycle battery. Trickle charging to full then will ignite. Prefilled lead-acid, no need to fill myself.
    • Put the BMW up for sale on both craigslist and offerup. https://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/mcy/d/new-york-bmw-r1200st-k-miles/7165970359.html.
      • Sidenote – offerup is a great app.
    • Made tahini for the first time here, new oven, new food processor.
    • “Amazon Move” offers 10% off items shipped by amazon.com for up to $200. I’ll definitely fill this out in the next 90 days, free $20.
    • Dryers can obviously be natural gas or electric. Instead of external venting, some models route air through a condensor.
    • Desired washer/dryer stacked: https://www.ajmadison.com/cgi-bin/ajmadison/MIWADREL19.html. 15A. 25″ deep. Smart (wifi). Really nice set, but $3500.
    • 27″ to the door in front closet, 30″ to the door in bathroom closet.
    • Created a document with all planned alterations and began working with the super. We should be in a decent place. Just need a quote for the washer/dryer routing, then I can start ordering and can start contracting/signing.
  • Thursday

    • Bought a new battery for the BMW. $65.
    • Reached out to super about getting the alteration request for the flooring started.
    • Unpacked all clothes. I’m now fully moved in, with regard to my Hermosa stuff.
    • Bought 22 various items totaling $800 for the house.
    • Lane splitting is actually illegal still in NY. Helmets are required.
    • Loving that chess is back with the legends of chess tournament. Ready for candidates to begin again.
    • Remember to add last_updated to your rows. Sqlalchemy can handle this easily.
  • Tuesday

    • Uber obviously runs google maps under the hood. This has cost ~20m a year (not that much) for the past few, plus some equity.
    • Reread a lot of my study materials for software engineering. Like to refresh every now and then.
    • FULL MOVE-IN DAY.
    • Got all my actual belongings delivered. The whole load from Hermosa.
    • Set up the wlan/lan repeater. Awesome utility.
    • Vehicles.
      • Bikes in garage!!!
      • 5 prepaid vouchers ($22/day for residents). Using 1 for 1-day ninja until it gets picked up. The others will go toward ducati/bmw until the new month rolls over. They’ll let me know.
      • Ninja got picked up later. Signed over the title. Submitted the notice of transfer and release of liability online (dmv).
      • Deleted the BMW and the Ninja from mint.
      • DMV. Took about an hour. Swapped the DL from CA to NY. Can’t get the READ ID yet, need a new SS card.
      • Need to create another appointment to transfer the ducati registration to NY, that office only does license stuff.
      • Drove around manhattan on the panigale for about an hour at dusk. Amazing.
    • Washer/dryer.
      • Electrician was here for half an hour. 40A unit. Fridge is 7A. Dishwasher is 3A. Need to keep washer + dryer (running at the same time) under 20A, or each individually under 20A if running at separate times.
      • Need to get a ventless dryer. But water can be routed to the front closet or the bathroom closet, no problem.
    • Flooring.
      • Believe the original parquet is 1/4″ thick. So if we grind/sand the humps down it, it will be plenty level to lay vinyl over.
      • Guy was much better than home depot. Doesn’t worry about the humps.
      • Need 870sqft and 6ft of reducer for the kitchen tile. Min wear layer 3mm. Engineered hardwood on top is fine. Sand the humps down, grind the door. Lay over. Need base shoe of course.

  • Monday

    • TOR = the onion router. Just an anonymous browser with a ton of relays.
    • Got auto insurance for the ducati (AAA -> progressive).
      • State minimum for most. Max deductible. Still 4.1k/yr. NY’s got jokes.
      • Bodily injury (others), property damage, uninsured/underinsured, medical (you).
      • No bundle for home/auto, since that only applies to cars not bikes.
      • Other discounts: ABS, anti-theft. Only ~100miles/yr
      • Might be able to pause coverage during winter months with a SORN or something.
      • It is $500 more if you do it in a payment plan instead of up front. If you sell the bike or cancel, it’ll be prorated, so just pay.
      • Created progressive account.
      • Submitted the description of the anti-theft immobilizer from the owner’s manual.
      • Didn’t have anything from MSF, but gave the westsidemotorcycleacademy’s number to AAA agent for verification.
    • Flooring.
      • Can’t do hardwood or laminate without complete removal and asbestos abatement. Would be a 25k+ job. Have to do viny.
      • Only problem with vinyl: I have 2 humps in the bedroom, 3/8″. 4 humps in the living room, 1/4″. Home depot won’t overlay that, but other installers will.
      • You can either sand it down or put padding around it to make the height change more gradual.
      • Called NYC floor pro. They said they could make it work. Someone coming to measure tomorrow.
    • Pullup bar installed.
  • Sunday

    • Terraform, hashicorp.
      • Like a docker compose file for infrastructure. A config that lists the items you need (VMs, K8s clusters, cloudflare, whatever) and then a cli to plan and apply these (instantiate the nodes, bring them up).
      • VPC = virtual private cloud, of course. For networking between nodes. From AWS.
      • Interfaces with many other providers to handle the specifics of bringing various bespoke nodes up.
      • Can instantiate one system for dev, one for test, one for prod, etc. Maybe with different env vars, maybe with different nodes.
      • Would be a layer around kubernetes.
      • All config is as code, in source, versioned and reviewed.
    • GitOps.
      • The vcs hash is the version.
      • Branches match environments.
      • The merge action triggers the deploy (and other similar webhooks).
      • Infrastructure as code = terraform.
      • System config as code = ansible.
      • Application config as code = kubernetes.
    • AAA.
      • This blog was so helpful to look back and search through today. In the chaos of the move I had to do so much, and wasn’t sure what I had already done with AAA membership.
      • Created and bookmarked the online profile with AAA northeast. Printed membership card.
      • Remember annual dues are $125 for just AAA membership. This is with the motorcycle extension.
      • And remember through AAA, they give a discount for homeowner’s with my current Plymouth Rock coverage.
      • Called to get new auto insurance policy. They didn’t have an agent for NY on sunday. Told me to call back on monday.
    • Changed address with all credit cards and usps. Still love that my new zip is pure binary.
