    • Set up full btc, eth, and sol nodes on my desktop.
    • DPoS: https://github.com/EOSIO/Documentation/blob/master/TechnicalWhitePaper.md.
    • 8am (ET) Tata Steel chess for the next 2 weeks.
    • https://btc.com/stats/pool. (last 3d) antpool still has 15.69% of the hashrate (has mined >60k blocks). Foundry, f2pool, pool, binance pool, others.
    • For eth it’s obv Ethermine (30.5%). https://etherscan.io/stat/miner?range=7&blocktype=blocks.
    • Solana Marinade, 7m SOL: https://solanacompass.com/stake-pools.
    • Current bitcoin blockchain 385GB. https://ycharts.com/indicators/bitcoin_blockchain_size. https://www.blockchain.com/charts/blocks-size.
    • bitcoin-cli or https://www.blockchain.com/explorer.
    • My custom rig is 1Tssd/6cores/21Gram.
    • https://etherscan.io/nodetracker US is 35% germany 15% UK 14% canada 10% (at least by IP).
    • Eth yellowpaper.

  • Saturday

    • Lots of research on taker fees, staking returns and interest rates, liquidity pool yields, deposit/withdrawal fees, regulation, much more. DEX included. Binance (+us), ftx (+us), kraken, coinbase, gemini, nexo, kucoin, blockchain, blockfi, paypal, robinhood, uniswap, pancakeswap, raydium, many more.
    • Decent summary of the fee side: https://www.cointracker.io/blog/2019-crypto-exchange-fee-comparison.
    • Medium-dive into bsc. Pancakeswap is a hard fork of uniswap, just like bsc hard fork of eth.
    • BitLicense for NY, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitLicense, circle gemini square coinbase robinhood.
    • Remember robinhood won’t let you withdraw/transfer crypto, have to sell.
    • Uniswap is a true AMM, only providing liquidity between ERC20-compatible tokens (although there’s still WBTC of course). Raydium runs on Serum’s central order book, so can trade anything. Radium fees 0.25% (22 to liquidity pool, 3 to RAY staking).
    • Played with solflare and metamask and electrum. Remember ledger can store solana but the ledger live app won’t show it (just manage through solarflare). Metamask has native capability to sync to a cold ledger wallet, removes the export private key feature, etc.
    • Potential path: Bank USD -> (free) -> coinbase pro USD -> (free) -> USDC -> (6 day withdrawal block) -> (variable fee, dependent on network) -> non-custodial wallet.
    • Ledger Live doesn’t store your accounts/keys/etc on a central Ledger server. It’s local. You can sync access across multiple devices by exporting accounts from desktop then importing on mobile. All syncing is done via the blockchain though, not ledger, and not between devices.
    • Also mobile wallets are sketchy. Bluetooth for connection to cold. Local storage vs server sync. All around better to keep only 1 device configured, and 0 devices connected.
    • I don’t like video games but I can’t ignore the size of this market: Axie Infinity (>3b spent in-game so far), DeFi Kingdoms, in-game tokens and collectibles, very lucrative applications.

  • Friday

    • Postgres: statement_timeout, pg_stat_statements, log_min_duration_statement, pgbouncer: https://blog.crunchydata.com/blog/five-tips-for-a-healthier-postgres-database-in-the-new-year.
    • Called about the Eight Sleep missing hub again (2 weeks now!) – phone support was much more apologetic and helpful than email. Overnighted the hub (although fedex no weekends and Monday is MLK so expected arrival next Wed..) and $50 amazon.
    • Pfizer 27 by market cap right now, 307b. Jpm 12 466b. Nvidia 10 662b. A market cap of 100b puts you rank ~155.
    • Remember chrome has __web-inspector-hide-shortcut__ (or just hotkey h while highlighting an element) so you don’t have to type visibility:hidden.
    • ~2mo for everything I’ve ever gotten off Etsy. Crazy.
    • Read https://curve.fi/files/stableswap-paper.pdf.
  • Thursday

    • GPG Gnu Privacy Guard.
    • Installed and configured ledger live on all win+ios. They partner with coinify for direct transactions on the nano, 1%+ fees. Some (like sol) don’t support native account creation, you need an external addy (phantom or solflare).
    • Inflation highest since 1982.
    • 198327 for CL card waitlist.
    • Old binance account (from back when not illegal in us) suspended. Random scattering of low value tokens. Can’t just extract private key and keep myself, these custodial exchange wallets are just hot entries in a db not an actual layer 1 address.
    • DEXs will keep you in control of your private keys, of course, with oracles setting prices as automated market makers. Liquidity pools are provided by users, who then collect the transaction fees for the transactions executed with their liquidity. Can have off-chain order books too. Variable fees, based on liquidity.
    • Uniswap’s primary pools have 0.05%, 0.3%, %1 fees.
    • Eight Sleep has trash customer service. 2 weeks and counting now (with daily reachouts) and no hub, missing package 2b aside rest.
    • Ledger staking is via Lido.
    • There are staking-as-a-service providers (like Figment) if you want to stake directly on chain, lower fees than staking from your exchange cust wallet.
    • Kraken allows staking off-chain, so non-PoS tokens can be staked (like BTC and even USD). All at diff interest %.
    • Remember USDT is tether on bitcoin and USDC is on eth.

  • Wednesday

    • Read https://solana.com/solana-whitepaper.pdf and a bunch of yt videos.
    • Friended all the other Brian Mahlstedts on LinkedIn (4).
    • Refresher on the algorithm internals of SHA256.
    • https://solanabeach.io/ 1387 current validators.
    • Gary Vee…lol.
    • Ahimsa and Semma this week.
    • All detailed notes in drive, ~10 pages today.

  • Tuesday

    • Watched 2 Elon interviews on 2.5x (shoutout Video Speed Controller extension), The Babylon Bee and Lex Friedman.
      • Interesting piece on neuralink; while it can go both directions, the output is much more important to accelerate because it’s the limiting factor. Think about the datarates of our senses (inputs) vs our communications (outputs). If you have a human in front of you, how quickly can you process the information that describes what’s in front of you? How they look, smell, sound etc. Very quickly. 1 second. Now how fast can you describe that information to someone else? Very slowly. Minutes. Constrained by speech. Same applies for other senses. Seeing a sculpture vs sculpting. Tasting a dessert vs recreating the taste. Smelling something vs understanding/describing the fragrance.
      • Garbage collection for regulations. Keep law like code. Better to remove than add.
      • Admitted incomplete understanding of smart contracts, surprisingly next to the public crypto support (albeit doge-esque).
    • Paradigm 1.15b to CitSec.
    • Researched lines against securities, homes, and pure margin (usually accrues daily and charges monthly). Securities best (subj). Avoid taxes. Variable interest, but ballpark 2%. Avoids liquidating, pushes to longterm cap gains, can get more. Maybe next home against spacex.
    • FTX offers 0.07% taker (current best for entry amount, I believe), slightly better than binance’s 0.1%.
    • Browsed pre-IPOs on EquityZen, submitted interest for a few.
      • Formal criteria for accredited investor (never looked up exact before): 200k annual income for 2yrs (or 300 joint), or 1m net worth without home.
    • Remember individual tax on gross, business tax on net. Deduct deduct deduct.
    • Will diversify very small corners with bonds and REITs shortly.
    • Installed and activated ExpressVPN on the new windows desktop, fedora laptop, chrome, and ios.

  • Monday

    • Did another wallet+exchange deepdive comparison. And looked into a few prediction markets.
    • https://moxie.org/2022/01/07/web3-first-impressions.html (Moxie Marlinspike = Matthew Rosenfeld, creator of signal, but also co-authored encryption used by whatsapp/skype/fbmsgr, former twitter csec).
    • Misc home: Distilled water, made peanut butter, powders, prep, niners in playoffs, steelers/jags/raiders/chargers crazy finish, klay thompson back, alabama georgia.
    • The Jan 5/6 hashrate drop from Kazakhstan’s internet blackout was 11%. #2 (total) mining pool after US.
    • Looked into a few eth oracles.
    • https://spectrum.ieee.org/12-milestones-2022. 6G wifi, electric planes, condor (433 qubits) surpassing eagle (127) quantum processor.
    • Read https://ethereum.org/en/whitepaper.
    • Found a 404 href on blockchain.com while looking around. Did a modern sync on broken link checking. Most static, but must render for 100% of course; can cypress or outsource to many linkcheckers.
    • NYC’s Billionaire’s row. 111 w 57th. Pied-a-terre.
